Location of Satara District:
The district of Satara is located in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. Spread across an area of almost 10484 square kilometers, the district is bordered by Solapur in the east, Ratnagiri in the west, Pune in the north and Sangli in the south. History of Satara District:
Ancient inscriptions dating back to 200 BC indicate that Karad is the oldest area of the district. Satara was also part of the Mauryan Empire between 451 to 455 AD. Thereafter it was ruled by the Satvahanas from 550 AD to 750 AD. The great Maratha ruler Shivaji conquered this region in the year 1663. In the year 1848, Satara District was made part of the Bombay Presidency and after India�s independence it became a district of Maharashtra.
